Healthy Diet for Autumn Season

Sudden exposure to sunlight after the rains and cool atmosphere aggravates pitta. The diet and lifestyle prescribed tries to pacify the aggravated body elements.

  1. Eat when one is really hungry.
  2. Cold, bitter, sweet and astringent foods should be taken in proper quantity.
  3. Light diet that can be digested easily.
  4. Old Grains: Barley, Wheat, Rice
  5. Laja (parched paddy, kheel)
  6. Eatables:
  • Honey
  • Sugar-candy (mishri)
  • Amlaki (gooseberry)
  • Moong (green gram)
  • Mulethi
  • Khas
  • Vanshalochan (Bambusa arundinacea)
  • Mint
  • Coriander
  • Rose petals
  • Isabgol

7.   Sweet and Bitter vegetables:

  • Parwal (patol)
  • Carrot
  • Cabbage
  • Broccoli
  • Cucumber
  • Pumpkin
  • White Pumpkin (petha)
  • Ghiya (bottle gourd)
  • Karela (bittergourd)
  • Torai (ridge gourd)
  • Spinach
  • Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia)

8.    Murwa (vidhara mool) leaves and roots chutney or vegetable.
9.    Sweet fruits:

  • Banana
  • Pear
  • Apple
  • Ber
  • Sugarcane
  • Coconut
  • Dates
  • Sweet pomegranate
  • Munakka (big raisins)
  • Singhara (water chestnut)
  • Gambhari  (Gmelina arborea)

10.   Mahatikta Ghrit (ghrit cooked with bitter herbs) in moderate amount with meals.

The water, heated with the sunrays during the day and cooled with moonrays during night, free from impurities and detoxicated by Agastya star in autumn, is known as “hamsodaka”. This water is considered nectar if used in bath and drink.

Garlands of seasonal flowers, pearls, clean apparel and also the moonrays in early nights is beneficial.​
One should avoid sun, dews, day sleep and easterly wind.
Avoid heavy food, alkalis, curd and meat of aquatic animals.
